Project Description

Stik is a modular lighting object distilled to its essential form—a minimal tube with a powerful technological core. Combining aesthetic simplicity and advanced technology, it transforms static spaces into vibrant, dynamic experiences. Featuring a sleek, 40mm white acrylic tube and precision-engineered 3D-printed end caps, Stik integrates seamlessly into any environment.

At its heart are 120 individually addressable RGBW LEDs, offering extensive lighting possibilities through real-time control via Wi-Fi connectivity. This allows for instant management of lighting effects through individually made mobile applications or dedicated server control, enabling dynamic interactions responsive to music or sensor inputs. The symmetrical arrangement of LEDs—60 on each side—creates captivating visual effects that redefine spatial perception.

STIK Installation for Liganova Horizon GmbH / VITRA AG

In the newly designed office of Liganova Horizon by VITRA AG, an expansive installation featuring 48 interconnected Stik lamps was realized. Organized into 12 rows with 4 lamps per row, these lamps are connected via an innovative magnetic suspension system, forming an adaptable and visually impactful lighting array.

The installation effortlessly transitions between providing crisp, neutral white lighting suited to productivity during the workday and vibrant, dynamic illumination synchronized to music during events and parties. This versatility contributed significantly to the distinctive atmosphere of the Liganova Horizon office, a notable factor in its recognition with a 1st place award in the “Excellent Architecture” category of the GERMAN DESIGN AWARD 2020.

Technical Description

The Stik lamp is composed of a durable 40mm white acrylic tube capped with custom-designed, 3D-printed components. Internally, each lamp contains 120 RGBW LEDs arranged symmetrically for optimal lighting effects. Real-time control of the lighting system is managed through Wi-Fi, using apps or a dedicated server setup, enabling interactive, responsive illumination.

The installation at Liganova Horizon employs a magnetic mounting system, allowing quick and flexible rearrangement, supporting its use in diverse scenarios such as co-working, events, and parties. Real-time synchronization with audio sources as well as additional sensors—such as motion, light, or environmental inputs—via vvvv software enhances the interactive experience, creating dynamic visual interactions that respond to both sound and spatial conditions.
