Project Description
„One Instant“ is a sculptural representation of a precise moment in time, capturing the alignment of selected stars through polished stainless steel surfaces. Blending artistry and astronomical precision, the sculpture integrates elegantly with its environment, creating captivating optical experiences that change throughout the day and night.
The sculpture’s shape emerges from planar surfaces carefully oriented towards specific stars at the exact location and moment of installation. This meticulous alignment results in a visually stunning depiction of a frozen celestial scene, engraving the astronomical positions of these stars directly onto its surfaces. By day, sunlight transforms the reflective surfaces into a radiant star, while by night, the sculpture mirrors the vastness of the night sky, becoming part of the celestial spectacle itself.
Technical Description
The sculpture was crafted from distortion-free, mirror-polished stainless steel, requiring precise geometry for accurate reflections. The form generation was achieved through custom-developed software built with Rhino3D and Grasshopper, translating complex celestial geometries into buildable, accurate production data.
Collaboration with Steelworks GmbH ensured the precise digital models were executed with high fidelity. Through precision manufacturing, the digital data were translated seamlessly into physical form, resulting in sharp edges and flawless, reflective surfaces that enhance the sculpture’s optical clarity and aesthetic quality.
